The Morrow Mountain Massacre Double Metric
The MMM Double Metric ride will begin at first light with a departure from downtown historic Matthews. You will work your way quickly through the back country roads on your way to Morrow Mountain. Once inside the park you turn left to the bottom where the climb up Morrow Mountain begins. The climb up is a steady, winding road the rewards you with panoramic views of Badin Lake and Lake Tillery.

Descending off the mountain you will begin the journey back to Matthews. Past the fields of cotton and over some of the hardest climbs of the day you will quickly come to understand why we say "leave a little gas in the tank because the real climbing doesn't begin until you head back to Matthews".

The 2011 Double Metric will be a partially supported ride.  Be sure to review the details below before you register for this one. Rest stops will be provided in the first and last 30 miles of the route as well as on top of Morrow Mountain. SAG support will also be limited. This will be the toughest Morrow Mountain Massacre yet. But then again, it's supposed to be tough. That's why it's called the Massacre!

Metric & Half Metric Routes

All new for 2011 are the Metric and Half Metric routes. These routes will share many of the same great roads that the double metric route uses. But unlike the double metric, the shorter rides will be fully supported with rest stops, SAG, and mechanical along the way. With a later start time you can sleep in a little longer too!

All riders must maintain a minimum 16mph avg. pace to complete any of the 3 routes before each route is officially closed.

SAG Support:

There will be SAG vehicles along the course to provide support to each rider. They will carry supplies to help with basic mechanical failure. The Double Metric 126 mile route will have very limited SAG support. Any rider on the Double Metric route should be prepared to complete the ride or provide their own SAG assistance.

If you require a SAG pull off the road. Give the SAG driver a thumbs down signal to verify that you want them to stop. If you SAG, you may not be taken back to the start immediately. Please be patient. We will get you back as soon as we can.
